Current Information for Mission Trip to Kentucky

 

WHERE: Hindman, KY (this has changed from NC but we do where they need it)
WHEN: JUNE 15-21, 2025
WHO: Min Age of volunteer is 14-15 yrs old w/ legal guardian, 16-17 years old with SP approved adult chaperone, 18+ yrs old= good to serve, no necessary prior skills are needed.

  • He is the scheduling person so he is in contact with SP to set up our team.
  • He is going down to the site prior and will report back in more detail.
  • He also runs local Pittsburgh missions for weekends so future items may be through his organization.
  • His organization also does mission trips in Nepal.

WHAT:

• This trip will be doing items such as drywall and rebuilding home from the floods.
• When notified Pastor Bill will organize jobs such as kitchen help for those not fully able to work onsite.

COST:

• Most is funded through Samaritan’s Purse.
• Transportation of the bus is majority funded through the local Mike Costea Helping Hands Fund from First Christian Church.
• Personal cost of $240 per person by March 31st (may be extended) payable to First Christian Church and non-refundable. - contact Christy for options

More information

• Travel down as a team for the week.
• Stay most likely in a relief center on a cot with showers, restrooms, etc maintained by SP staff.
• Meals are provided by SP. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks.
• Morning devotions and team planned evening activity or personal time.
• Clothing required is jeans/pants (no shorts) and work type shoes such as closed toe tennis shoes as we are working on site and representing Jesus.
• 2 SP T-shirts will be given upon arrival. Put your name on the back, wear it for the day, put in laundry, for SP will wash and dry and return the following day while you wear the 2nd shirt. The rotation continues.
• Other clothes such as hats and sleepwear need to be representative of a Christian. Pack an outfit to return home in. Maybe put this in a sealed bag so as not to get smelly and lost.
• Tools are provided such as power ones by SP. You can bring a tool belt and simple things like a hammer, screwdriver, disposable hand wipes.
• Some bring little gift cards to give out to contacts but clothes and other donations are not needed at this time. SP warehouses are overloaded.
